Review: Behold

Author: Faith Potts

I learned about this little book recently as part of a Christmas giveaway. Happy for me, I won a copy! And I am so glad that I got to experience this delightful little book and that I get to share it with you.

The subtitle really says it all. This book of less than a hundred pages holds a handful of short stories that center around Christmastime. One of the stories is related to another of Faith Potts’ books, Dandelion Dust, but I don’t think you need to have read that book in order to enjoy this short story. Although, I encourage you to get ahold of that book as well! Each of these stories stands on its own. None are too brief as to feel incomplete, and each pulls you along to discover the conclusion along with the characters!

These short stories take place at different periods of history but in some way center on family, faith, and Christmas, especially what Christmas means to those who have served during wartime. Though these stories are brief, the author succeeds in making believable characters and relatable stories. I say relatable not in the sense that you must have experienced wartime to sympathize with the characters. Instead, you feel for the characters; you cheer for them, cry with them, and share in their joy. You are there in the story with them, which is quite a feat for the short-story writer!

These are beautiful, uplifting stories perfect for the Christmas season and will continue that warmth throughout the year. The writing is well-done, and the emotion felt through the written word is clearly from the heart. If you don’t have one yet, get yourself or a friend a copy and enjoy these wonderful short stories by a talented young author.

Blessings to you and yours,

~Madelyn Rose Craig
