Once again, I found myself reading a book when I could not drink the book’s subject. I find it somewhat amusing that this has happened again. I meant to start reading The Angels’ Portion by Rev. Thoma a long time ago. I think it has been almost two years since it was sent to me. But between that time and now, a lot happened. But here I am, just had a baby, and reading a book about whisky. I think the ultimate reason I decided to read this book right now is because I’ve in a bit of a reading and mental slump. I’m tired, frazzled, and I just need something short and real to read. Most of the fiction I thought about was too…unengaging. Most of the nonfiction would take more focus than I could give. But these short, real stories were perfect. They always engage and always entertain. I can set this book down without getting lost and pick it up knowing that the brief moments I have to read will be well spent. And I think that is what I love most about these books by Rev. Thoma. While these are whiskey reviews, they are also stories, musings of the mind, and memories. Each chapter is a little insight into life and the world, and I rather enjoy reading that. I’ve even been convicted about a couple things. And along the way, I have picked up some ideas for the whiskeys I’d like to try. A few sound right up my alley. I guess that closing chapter is on to something? Hopefully, I can try them one day. But if you want to read something witty and insightful, or are looking for the perfect whiskeys to try, pick up this book (or the first three). You won’t be disappointed.
Blessings to you and yours,

In Psalm 104 we read, “He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate–bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens the heart, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart.”
Can we add whisky to that last? I think so.
