Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will acts.
~ Psalm 37:3-7 ~
The past weeks and months have been a challenging time for most of us. There is a fear of sickness, a fear of the lack in finances, a fear of the future, maybe even a fear of the past. My family is facing its own fears and hurts. It is easy to become consumed by them, by fear. Fear implies a lack of trust. But what does this passage encourage us to do?
We are called to trust, to faith. That is what faith is. It means trust. And what are we trusting in here? We are putting our trust in the Lord. We do this not because we can see the future, but because He holds the future. It is easy to fall into fear, but there is no fear in love “for perfect love casts out fear” (1 Jhn 4:18). Christ loves us. He demonstrated this Love when He died for us that we might live. Yes, that is life eternal, but He also cares for us now (Matt. 6:25-33). We are called to seek God first in our lives, to delight ourselves in Him. These other things will follow. He WILL take care of us.
This has been a time of fear, but it is also a time of reflection. This is a time not just for organizing and reordering our houses and schedules, but reordering our hearts and minds that we might put Christ first. He will give us peace and all that we need. There are these temporal fears now, but God will lead us not only in this life but also in eternity. He will fulfill His promises to care for us (1 Pet. 5:7, Mal. 3:10).
Blessings to you and yours,
