Prayer by We the People

Many people have talked about taking back the country (that is, the United States). Few have talked about turning the country and turning it back to God. In many ways, our country was a gift, not that we were chosen by God in the way that Israel as a nation and people were, but we were blessed here. God gave us prosperity for a time. We have been punished for our wrongdoings, but we were a Christian nation filled with people who longed for God, made Him part of our daily lives, quoted His Word in our daily speech, lived with the knowledge that we rose or fell by His hand. And we lost that along the way. There are a number of reasons why is happened, groups of people with the same goals and ideologies and those who differed and yet came to the same ends. There are reasons our country has arrived at the present moment, but the greatest, ultimate  reason we are  in this position today is because we have turned away from God and His Word. We don’t daily quote scripture; we don’t live with the knowledge of God’s hand in our lives; we act as though there are no consequences for directly disobeying God’s commands.

And we think that will be just fine.

But it is not. There is always a consequence for every action taken – good or bad – and by the looks of the state of our country, I think the consequence will be judgement and not praise.

Matt Walsh hits on some of these points, some of the sins ingrained in our culture. He does not discuss them all nor go into them with great detail. That is not the point. While we need to acknowledge our sins and repent, we must do so with sincerity of heart and turn back to God fully. It will be hard; I know I see things in my life that leave me ashamed. I see a country that not only the founders would be distraught to look at, but also think about the immense sadness or perhaps even anger our  Heavenly Farher must know. And like any good father, He will discipline His children. So let us who are called turn back, ask for forgiveness, and seek to do His will.

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
