I think I can speak for everyone when I say that no one likes to be sad, or in regards to the verse I will look at, feeling regret or guilt because of a wrong choice. Oftentimes, we do not like to face and acknowledge what we have down wrong. Yet it is easy to forget that, unless we are shown what is wrong in our lives, we cannot get any better. I find it encouraging that when I read God’s Word I am shown where God is directing me in my life. I am learning. It may be painful at the time, but I see afterwards how the change brought good to my life.
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but wordy sorrow brings death.
~ 2 Corinthians 7:10 ~
There is no way around it. You either have encouraging sorrow, or destructive sorrow. Earthly sorrows are often disappointments and mess-ups in life. Things that are temporary, but hold much of our focus. It is sinning in the world and getting hurt, but not growing or learning in any way. We live in the world and die by its destructiveness. This is disturbing. But God promises us this hope: sorrow allowed by God brings us to repentance and His Salvation. Having a conscience and God’s Word as a guide can save us earthly sorry and bring heavenly joy. We should not become discouraged by reading the judgments in God’s Word, but instead we should be encouraged by the gift that it brings us.
