Writing Update

My goodness, the last few months have been a rush. At some point last week, we went from being in the first few days of January to the second half of July. While I know everyone says time flies as you get older and have kids, but these last few months have felt like a whirlwind to me. It seems like both a lot of things have happened and a lot of nothing has happened.

To begin, our baby boy arrived mid-march. He is a little bundle of smiles and giggles. Actually, he really isn’t all that little, and he outweighed his sister by almost half when he was born! But he loves all and is loved by all. And I am greatly enjoying watching the differences and similarities show up between my kids. I never knew my heart could be so full.

As for my little girl, she is a most active toddler, exploring God’s creation to the fullest. And while I sometimes struggle to keep up with her, I love her spirit and her joy. We’ve started to do some “school” with her, but she’s still pretty wiggly most days! So, we learn on the go. I think by this fall we can really work with her more consistently. But as it is, she is learning some basic preschool things and faith things. Nothing has warmed my heart more than hearing her recite parts of the catechism, especially when she added “honor your father and mommyer” to the ten commandments!

But, not everything is sunshine and smiles. We learned in the early part of this year that my husband’s job would be ending in June. And while we thought we would have a new place lined up by now, we’re still sitting in limbo. Some of my previous posts have touched on my struggles with that, so I won’t rehash them here. Suffice it to say that while I (really) don’t like being in this position, I am trusting that God has a plan for our future. I cherish your prayers, though, that we would know that plan is soon because honestly, I just want to move. Being still is tough!

In regards to that future move and the stress of life, I have been trying to plan out my future writing goals. And I do have some news! First, I have completed the first draft of my next book! (cheers) This book will be quite a bit different than most of my writing, and completely different than my last book. Even so, this is the type of writing I have been doing for a very long time. I just don’t share it much. That will be changing in the coming months. This will be a collection of poetry, and I can hardly wait to share it! I have it outlined and put together, and I’ve done a rough edit so far. Now I need to do a lot more editing, some formatting, and have some people do some read-throughs. Right now, the plan is to have this book ready for publishing in April 2022. Unlike last time, I’m hoping to have some steps completed much father in advance of publishing!

In preparation for launching my book, I am planning on sharing some of my favorite pieces of poetry. There will be a range, and some styles will be reflected in my book, but I mostly want to share a form of the written word that I don’t see discussed often. While on a separate blog I often write on hymns, these poems will largely be spoken rather than sung (usually, for I do love a good poem put to music). I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do!

Additionally, I have started to piece together a work of creative nonfiction that I have been planning for a long time. This will be a collaborative work, so I need to keep the details under wraps for a while longer. But when I can share more, I will!

As I said, this uncertainty in our life is causing some delays in my writing, but I’m starting to find a pattern to my days again. I’m claiming more time to write and read, and I’m looking forward to sharing all that I have planned with you. While I still plan to continue posting reviews and devos, keep an eye out for posts on poetry. I can’t wait to eventually share my own with you!

Blessings to you and yours,

~Madelyn Rose Craig

  1. Your latest post was my introduction to your blog. I look forward to reading more about your new poetry book.

With all of the changes going on in your family’s life right now, I reminded of one of the great collects of the church:

Lord God, You have called Your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that Your hand is leading us and Your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
